The Hawker 800XP is one of the most successful private jets British Aerospace has ever made and an incredibly popular private jet to charter. Typically able to fly up to eight passengers in luxury, few mid-range jets can match the aircraft’s combination of comfort, cabin size and range.

• The 800XP replaced the Hawker 800 in 1995 as the third-generation model of the 800 series.
• Production ended in 2005 following the completion of over 400 deliveries.
• The Hawker 800XP typically holds eight passengers with a three-seat divan in the rear of the cabin. Some are configured with six individual seats. A further passenger can be seated in the enclosed lavatory if required.
• The accessible luggage compartment at the front of the cabin has space for a maximum of four large suitcases.

Technological features

The Hawker 800XP is powered by two rear-mounted Honeywell TFE731 turbofan engines, allowing it to fly up to 2,540 nautical miles with eight passengers and two crew on board.

Its avionics system is based on the Honeywell SPZ-8000 suite featuring GPS, high-frequency communications, a ground proximity warning system, traffic collision avoidance system and dual autopilot. Flight and systems information is displayed on five screens and some analogue controls. Some upgraded variations of the aircraft are fitted with the Rockwell Collins ProLine 21 avionics suite.

History

The Hawker 800XP is a derivative of the British Aerospace 125 built by de Havilland/Hawker Siddeley in 1962. The HS.125 evolved into the Series 400 through 800 and was produced until 1993 when Raytheon purchased the Series 800 program and the aircraft was renamed the Hawker 800. The Hawker 800XP entered service in 1995 after production of the Hawker 800 model ended. Production of the 800XP ended in 2005 after over 400 deliveries. It remains one of the most popular aircraft to buy and charter.

Manufacturer

Hawker Beechcraft Corporation originated in 1994 when Raytheon merged its Beech Aircraft Corporation and Raytheon Corporate Jets units, creating a company that built Beechcraft and Hawker business jet aircraft between 2006 and 2013. The company headquarters was in Wichita, Kansas, United States, and had maintenance and manufacturing locations worldwide.

In 2006, Raytheon sold the company to a consortium of Goldman Sachs and Onex Corporation leaving the company with a heavy burden of debt which it struggled with from the economic crisis of 2008 onwards. In April 2012 it defaulted on interest payments and breached of banking covenants, causing widespread speculation that it would enter bankruptcy.

On May 3, 2012, the company did indeed enter bankruptcy and subsequently accepted an offer to be purchased by Superior Aviation Beijing. However, negotiations for the sale failed and the company decided to exit bankruptcy on its own under a new name, Beechcraft Corporation. The new and much smaller company discontinued the jet line but continued to support the aircraft already produced with parts and engineering.

Beechcraft Corporation was subsequently acquired by Textron Aviation in 2014.
